"Racial micro-aggressions [Verify[s] proves/confirms posts on blog "Sociology Area" is term used in article=which are brief, commonplace, daily verbal or behavioral indignaties, whether intentional or unintentional, that communicate hostile, derogatory or negative racial slights and insuslt and potentioally have a harmful or unpleasant psychological impact on the target person or group."

Inside the article also it states what people who experience racial micro-aggressions on a regular basis should do; [“If you are angry or afraid, you should tell your parents, siblings, friends or school counselors.  It is alright to be angry or afraid.  How you deal with the anger or fear is what matters most.  You can use it productively by talking about it, playing sports to channel your pent up anger or being involved in pro-social activities like mentoring or community organizing."]; of which I have blogged on "Sociology Area" almost daily of how the local, etc. community has NOT responded but continues to ignore/cover up the fact of the abuse [micro-aggressions by white folk that pay black folk in the Black community to commit secret inner micro aggressions on other Black folk][which leads to Black on Black crime/violence]; at which point after close to thirty five years of asking for help; such as watching numerous family members killed [legal][or through legal means[surgery-legal][stabbing-illega][both use a knife];etc. read blog Sociology Area].

Most of the article in the New York Amsterdamn News is as follows:
"SAVING OUR SONS: UNDERSTANDING THE PSYCHOLOGICAL IMPLICATIONS OF THE TRAYVON MARTIN CASE AND WALKING WHILE BLACK By Richard Orbe-Austin, PhD
Dynamic Transitions, Psychologocial Cionsulting, LLP.

"The tragic death of Trayvon Martin strongly resonates with our community because it demonstrates
how vulnerable the lives of young Black males are due to racist assumptions about their intentions.  While we may never know what happened between Martin and George Zimmerman, it is clear that a young black male wearing a hoodie was viewed as a suspect.  Unfortunately, this reality is not new to many Black males living in the United States.  Despite the fact that the vast majority of Black males are not criminals, we all walk under a veil of suspicion, especially young ones, as we attempt to go about our daily activities.”

“In addition to mourning the loss of a young man’s life, it is important to understand the psychological implications of Martin’s death for all our young Black males and the risks they face walking while Black.  Every time an unarmed young Black male is killed, it sends chills through the community.  This reality causes many parents of Black boys to prepare them to survive in a world that is often hostile to their very existence.  They must teach them to not appear “suspicious,” to be respectful to the law enforcement and to not make any sudden movements when confronted by law enforcement.” [dog out blacks legally][act of or in the law][black law Dictionary]; Blacks do not have anybody to enforce the laws to protect Blacks;

“Despite these rules of engagement or because of them, many Black males do not feel safe and are constantly fearful of attack, especially from law enforcement whose mission it should be to protect, not criminalize them.”

“We are losing generations of young Black men who are psychologically scarred by the trauma of experiencing racial violence, either at the hands of the law enforcement agents [white or those white under cover] or by civilians who consider them “dangerous.”
They are angry, afraid and distrustful of their environments.”

“In addition to overt acts of racial violence, many black males are also victims of daily racial micro-aggressions.  According to Derald Wing Sue, a psychology professor at Teachers College-Columbia University, racial micro-aggressions are “brief, common place, daily verbal or behavioral  indignities, whether intentional or unintentional, that communicate hostile, derogatory or negative racial slights and insults and potentially have a harmful or unpleasant psychological impact on the target person or group.”

For instance, constantly being stopped and frisked by law enforcement is a form of racial micro-aggression.  Being unfairly followed in a store/or PUBLIC LIBRARY is another form of racial micro-aggression.  Dealing with these negative situations takes a psychological toll, with many Black males experiencing emotional difficulties as a result of thsie experiences.  For instance, according to the Black Mental Health Alliance for Education and consultation, 7 personce of black males will develop depression [Black Mental Health Alliance is probably directed by African American female [meaning an understanding with males of the larger society; the real truth will not be told; will help males of the larger society in return for protection for my family members not being  attacked in society controlled by  males of the larger society.  In actuality if truth be told the real percentage is  probably more like 90 to 95 percent or higher of African American males who suffer from some form of depression][http://blackmentalhealth.com/About%20Us/About%20Us%20Menu.htm] and looking at the website; the message is work with males of the larger society in secret and you too can have a marvalous family like the African American prostitute undercover and be the envy of all your friends because you will have the American dream [husband/children/house with the WHITE picket fence].

“It is evident that we must respond to the needs of our young Black males.  This response should be individual, familial and community components.  Individually, Black males must feel more comfortable asking for help and talking about their feelings.”

“If you are angry or afraid, you should tell your parents, siblings, friends or school counselors.  It is alright to be angry or afraid.  How you deal with the anger or fear is what matters most.  You can use it productively by talking about it, playing sports to channel your pent up anger or being involved in pro-social activities like mentoring or community organizing.” [what President Obama did][follow your role model][EXCEPT-President Obama was protected by white folk; while expressed his opinion[s]; and organized; the REAL AFRICAN AMERICAN male does NOT have such back up and would targeted/attacked on everyside.]

“As a community, we must remove the stigma of using mental health services as a viable option to deal with our pain.” [for African American[s] it would be another weapon used against them]; heard a psychologist on fm radio station say: "PEOPLE DO NOT NEED A PSYCHOLOGIST; ALL THEY NEED IS SOMEONE; ANYONE THAT WILL LISTEN TO THEM."  The issue in the African American community is not having a family member punished for having helped another family member; part of the system designed by males of the larger society; that way if person can't talk to family member; they need "SOCIAL SERVICES"; ETC..; ALL their systems are designed to find area to make money off of person or situation and identify ways to ensure that males of the larger society and their family members keep jobs.

History

About Us

A $10 Investment 95 years ago turned the Amsterdam News into one of New York's largest and most influential Black-owned and operated business institutions.
On December 4, 1909, the late James H. Anderson put out the first issue of the Amsterdam News. He had $10 in his pocket, six sheets of paper, a lead pencil and a dressmaker's table.
The newspaper was one of only 50 Black papers in the United States at that time, and it was sold for 2 cents a copy from Anderson's home at 132 W. 65th St., in the San Juan Hill section of Manhattan. With the spread of Blacks to Harlem and the growing success of the paper, Anderson moved the Amsterdam News uptown to 17 W. 135th St. in 1910. In 1916, it moved to 2293 Seventh Ave., and in 1938, it moved again, to 2271 Seventh Ave. In the early 1940s, the paper relocated to its present address at 2340 Eighth Ave.
Not soon after the death of Edward Warren, one of the early publishers, Anderson sold his stock in the paper. In 1935, after many years of struggle, the paper was sold to the Powell Savory Corporation, then owned by two of the nations foremost Black entrepreneurs, Dr. C.B. Powell and Dr. Phillip M.H. Savory. Dr. Powell assumed the role of publisher.
During Powell's stewardship, the Amsterdam News not only took on local news, but national news as well. Much of the paper's strength was based on its shaping the advancement and realization of Black aspirations. As a consequence, the paper is undoubtedly the most frequently quoted Black weekly in the world. The Amsterdam News, in its 95 years, has had many significant innovations. It was the second Black newspaper to be admitted to the Audit Bureau of Circulation (ABC), in October 1930, of which it is still a member. In 1936, it became the first - and still is the only ¬- Black newspaper that was unionized in all departments by the Newspaper Guild of New York, Local 3.
On May 1, 1971, Dr. C.B. Powell announced his retirement and sold the Amsterdam News to the Amnews Corporation, its present owner. Over the years, many important figures in journalism have been editors of the paper, including T. Thomas Fortune, George W. Harris, Obie McCollum, John Lewis Clarke, Earl Brown, Dan Burley, Julius J. Adams, Thomas Watkins, S.W. Garlington, Stanley Ross, T.J. Sellers, Dr. G. James Fleming, James L. Hicks, Jesse H. Walker and Bryant Rollins. While the Amsterdam News is Black-oriented, it has always been aware of the fact that it serves a multiracial community and recognized other ethnic groups.
On Nov. 26, 1963, The New York Times credited the Amsterdam News with inspiring a crackdown on vices and other ills in the village of Harlem. "The Amsterdam News has always had a great deal of persuasive power in Harlem and other Black communities," the Times Wrote.
In August 1982, Wilbert A. Tatum, chairman of the board and editor-in-chief, assumed direction of the paper and has since broadened its editorial perspective, particularly in international affairs. This expanded thrust has produced considerable interest and readership from all sectors of the local, national and international communities.
In July 1996, Tatum bought out the last remaining investor, putting the future of the paper in the hands of the Tatum family. In December 1997, Tatum stepped down as publisher and editor-in-chief and passed the torch to his daughter, Elinor Ruth Tatum, who was 26 years old at the time. Wilbert Tatum remains at the paper as publisher emeritus and chairman of the board.
